The Library - Believe

Believe in yourself, what you think, what you feel.
Believe in the truth, in the good, the ideal.
Believe that your dreams can someday become real...
Forever and always believe.

Believe in yourself, and in what you can do.
Believe in the goals that you strive to pursue.
Believe in the friends who believe in you too...
Forever and always believe.

(Liezel Schoeman, Matric Final Exam, 1991)

Daagliks bou ons lugkastele, besoek mekaar se liggame,
museums vol geheime en skatte.

Elkeen se eiesoortige, eiesinnige kyk op sake
word soos tydsones oorgesteek en aanvaar.
Ek leer jou taal praat, en ons lag oor my aksent,

'n Eensame, moeë aankoms op 'n lughawe laat my altyd wonder:

Waarom het ek die reis aangepak?

The Library - Destiny

Came across this quote in my Industrial Psychology Text Book:

Control you own destiny!  If you don't control your own destiny..
...somebody else will!

Was daar skerwe?

The Library - Quotes

EX HOMEO EST NOVUS OMNIS

I believe that loosely translated, the above means: From humans, always something new.
I stand corrected.

The Library - Memories

None of us can heal things that
life has done to us,
They're done before we can realize
what's being done, and then
They make you do things all
your life until
These things are constantly coming
between you and
What you'd like to be and
In that way, you
seem to lose
yourself
forever.

The Library - David Pawson: Unlocking the Bible

Many, many moons ago, I walked into a book store in East London and saw in the Christian Literature section a very, very thick book for a very, very reasonable price.  Now to me that is an irresistible combination.  The third irresistible factor was that this book was a book about the Bible.  I bought the book without thinking twice.
The book was David Pawson's Unlocking the Bible.  I started reading on the way home,  but as usual, life got in the way and the book ended up on one of our many bookshelves.  About a year later, our church announced that they would be starting a new course called Unlocking the Bible and we could join the study every Wednesday evening at our prayer room.  They would be showing the videos that David Pawson made about each one of the Bible books.  I took out my copy of the book, dusted it off and started attending the video screenings.  What an amazing man!  The Lord took him and his circumstances and lead him to study the Bible in such a way that literally unlocked the Bible.
To add to the above I have to explain that in my 40 odd years, I have attempted to read the complete Bible within a year many times, but to my great frustration have failed many times.  2014 has not been excluded in these attempts, but this year, I might not fail as dismally as previous years.  This is mostly due to the fact that my dear friend S. with whom I walk every morning is also a great reading friend and we compare notes about our Bible reading progress.  Her husband is a minister and the fact that we have a walking, talking source of reference helps a lot.
Back to David Pawson.
On his website, www.davidpawson.org  you can watch the videos or listen to the mp3's.
The other great thing about the book is that you don't have to read the book from the first to the last page.
You simply read a book in the Bible, for example Job, page to the chapter in Mr. Pawson's book about Job and voila! a brilliant method of study.
What are you waiting for!  Go buy the book, watch the videos or listen to the mp3's!

The library - Lapis Lazuli

Lapis-lazuli hg.jpg
LAPIS LAZULI
Lapis Lazuli is a beautiful, rich ultramarine-blue stone consisting largely of lazurite and speckled with yellow pyrite. Lapis was one of the most sought after and prized stones of ancient times. It was used for jewelry, ornamentation, seals, and amulets. It was also used extensively for inlaying. Egyptian blue paint was made from finely ground lapis. This stone has been found in abundance in archaeological digs of ancient civilizations, including King Tut’s tomb which held many beautiful specimens of lapis jewelry dating to 1350 BC. Mines in Afghanistan have been producing gem lapis lazuli for nearly 5000 years and are still the worlds largest producer of the material. Most scholars agree that lapis lazuli is actually the stone meant for the term “sapphire” in the Bible. Sapphires were not known before the Roman empire and were initially considered to be jacinth. The Elder Pliny (AD 23-69) gives a description of sappir (translated by most as sapphire) as being like the night sky, spangled with stars, and Theophratus (372-287BC) describes “sappir spotted with gold.” These descriptions definitely indicate the lapis lazuli.

Job 28:6New International Version (NIV)

lapis lazuli comes from its rocks,
and its dust contains nuggets of gold.

My blog: The life and adventures of KatieB has gone past it's expiry date..since it was more related to my "previous life" - now I feel that it is time to start fresh - and to collect the thoughts that are currently bouncing around in my head.  So from there the idea to call this blog "a room in the Castle" - a way to keep kinds of thoughts together, neatly ordered, if that is at all possible, but hopefully there will be a secret passage here and there..
Let's start exploring..
Warning!  Grammar and spelling will not receive as much attention as it did in the past..so if you have OCD's about grammar and spelling..please move on to the next blog..
